Product name, nominal size or pressure class alone cannot establish that a valve is suitable for a specific line or duty.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-27e732f4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-html\" data-id=\"27e732f4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"html.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 id=\"what-data-must-be-confirmed-before-comparing-the-designs\">What Data Must Be Confirmed Before Comparing the Designs?<\/h2>\n\n<p>The first question is not simply, \u201cWhich valve is better?\u201d It is, \u201cWhat must the valve do in every operating case?\u201d A Gate valve selected for infrequent main-line isolation is being evaluated for a different duty than a Globe valve used to adjust a warm-up bypass several times per shift.<\/p>\n\n<h3 id=\"process-and-duty-data\">Process and duty data<\/h3>\n\n<p>Confirm the following before selecting a direction:<\/p>\n\n<ul>\n<li>isolation, throttling, bypass, drain, vent or automatic process-control duty;<\/li>\n<li>medium, composition, phase, solids and condensate condition;<\/li>\n<li>normal operating and design pressure and temperature;<\/li>\n<li>minimum, normal and maximum flow;<\/li>\n<li>normal and maximum differential pressure;<\/li>\n<li>allowable permanent pressure loss;<\/li>\n<li>operating frequency, expected travel range and thermal cycling;<\/li>\n<li>erosion, flashing, cavitation, fouling, noise or vibration risk where relevant.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h3 id=\"valve-and-acceptance-data\">Valve and acceptance data<\/h3>\n\n<p>The RFQ or datasheet should also define:<\/p>\n\n<ul>\n<li>DN\/NPS, PN\/Class and end connection;<\/li>\n<li>body pattern and closure-element design;<\/li>\n<li>body, bonnet, gate\/disc\/plug, seat, stem, packing, gasket and bolting requirements;<\/li>\n<li>required flow direction and installation restrictions;<\/li>\n<li>shut-off direction and allowable leakage;<\/li>\n<li>manual, gear, pneumatic, electric or hydraulic operation;<\/li>\n<li>applicable design, pressure-rating, dimensional, connection and test requirements;<\/li>\n<li>inspection, witness, traceability and document requirements.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>Unknown values can remain open, but they should be recorded as RFQ clarifications, technical deviations or approval hold points. They should not be replaced with a generic Gate-versus-Globe rule.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-77228a59 elementor-widget elementor-widget-html\" data-id=\"77228a59\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"html.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 id=\"how-internal-design-changes-flow-and-operation\">How Internal Design Changes Flow and Operation<\/h2>\n\n<p>Gate and Globe valves are both linear-motion families, but the closure element interacts with the flow passage differently. In many conventional designs, the closure element is substantially withdrawn from the flow path when fully open. This is one reason an <a href=\"https:\/\/raymonvalve.com\/gate-valves\/\">industrial Gate valve range<\/a> is commonly screened for isolation duty where the valve normally remains fully open or fully closed.<\/p>\n\n<p>The family name does not define one construction. Wedge, parallel-slide, slab, expanding and knife-gate designs do not have identical seating behavior, operating force, solids tolerance or service limits. Rising and non-rising stems, bonnet arrangements, end connections and seat designs must also be confirmed for the exact offered valve.<\/p>\n\n<h3 id=\"globe-valve-closure-path\">Globe-valve closure path<\/h3>\n\n<p>A Globe valve moves a disc or plug toward or away from a stationary seat opening. The body and seat region usually redirect or restrict the flow. This commonly creates more resistance than a conventional fully open Gate valve, but it can provide more usable behavior at intermediate positions.<\/p>\n\n<p>Straight or T-pattern, Y-pattern and angle-pattern <a href=\"https:\/\/raymonvalve.com\/globe-valves\/\">Globe valve designs<\/a> should be compared separately. An on-off disc, throttling plug and characterized control trim are not equivalent. The supplier should identify the exact closure profile, guide or cage arrangement where applicable, permitted travel and flow data.<\/p>\n\n<h3 id=\"operating-travel-and-force\">Operating travel and force<\/h3>\n\n<p>Handwheel turns or stem position do not automatically define flow rate. Differential pressure, seating direction, stem and packing friction, trim geometry and the exact mechanism affect operating force. For an automated valve, the actuator package requires a controlled thrust or torque basis, sizing factor, supply condition, travel requirement, fail action and accessory scope.<\/p>\n\n<p>An actuator visible in a photo or listed as an option is not proof that it is included or correctly sized for the proposed duty.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-366df8ae elementor-widget elementor-widget-html\" data-id=\"366df8ae\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"html.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 id=\"which-valve-is-better-for-isolation\">Which Valve Is Better for Isolation?<\/h2>\n\n<h3 id=\"when-a-gate-valve-is-usually-screened-first\">When a Gate valve is usually screened first<\/h3>\n\n<p>A Gate valve is commonly the first screening direction when the primary requirement is full-open\/full-close isolation and the system benefits from a relatively direct open flow path. Typical decision conditions include:<\/p>\n\n<ul>\n<li>the valve spends long periods fully open or fully closed;<\/li>\n<li>permanent pressure loss matters to system performance;<\/li>\n<li>the duty does not require sustained intermediate positioning;<\/li>\n<li>the exact construction can close against the specified differential pressure;<\/li>\n<li>maintenance and operating access fit the selected stem and bonnet arrangement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>This does not approve every Gate design. The project team must still verify pressure-temperature rating, closure direction, maximum differential pressure, seat construction, operating force, leakage acceptance and installation restrictions.<\/p>\n\n<h3 id=\"when-a-globe-valve-may-still-be-considered\">When a Globe valve may still be considered<\/h3>\n\n<p>A Globe valve may be considered for smaller auxiliary lines, equipment bypasses, drains, vents or services that combine shutoff with occasional adjustment. The additional pressure loss must be acceptable, and the supplier should identify the body pattern, disc or plug, seat design, flow direction and maximum shut-off differential pressure.<\/p>\n\n<h3 id=\"shutoff-requires-a-defined-acceptance-criterion\">Shutoff requires a defined acceptance criterion<\/h3>\n\n<p>Neither family name guarantees a particular leakage result. A request for \u201ctight shutoff\u201d is incomplete unless the quotation identifies:<\/p>\n\n<ul>\n<li>the seat and closure construction;<\/li>\n<li>the test method and applicable edition;<\/li>\n<li>test pressure and medium;<\/li>\n<li>test direction;<\/li>\n<li>allowable leakage or acceptance criterion;<\/li>\n<li>whether the requirement applies to production testing, type testing or an order-specific witnessed test.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>Shell testing, seat\/closure testing, functional testing, fire testing, fugitive-emission testing, NDT and PMI are separate activities.
