1- Scope of application

ISO10497 specifies the fire test requirements for valves and fire test methods for valves to verify the pressure resistance performance of valves during and after fire tests. This standard does not include manual transmissions or similar parts of machinery from the valve assembly. The fire resistance test requirements of the transmission device and other types of valve transmission devices (such as electric, pneumatic or hydraulic), require special protection to ensure that the valve can be operated under the conditions established in the test.

2- Matters that need attention

The valve fire test can be dangerous, so personal safety is an essential factor to consider. Due to the structure of the test valve, the test equipment and the fire resistance test, the pressure interface can break dangerously. Therefore, in order to ensure personal safety, adequate protective devices must be installed around the test chamber and other necessary measures must be taken.

3- Experimental principle

Put the water-filled pressure valve in closed position for fire resistance test and place the valve in a flame with an ambient temperature of 750 ℃ ~ 1000 ℃ for 30 minutes. (The purpose is to completely enclose the valve in the fire zone to ensure that the valve seat and sealing area are exposed to high combustion temperatures.)
Record the amount of internal and external losses during this period
After the valve has cooled, it must be subjected to a hydrostatic test to evaluate the pressure bearing capacity of the valve housing, seat and seal.
