Ball Valve Manufacturers & Suppliers | Raymon Valve
Industrial Ball Valve Product Range
Buyers evaluating ball valve manufacturers should compare more than price and nominal size. A technically suitable industrial ball valve must match the process medium, design pressure, temperature, pressure class, connection, shut-off requirement and operating method. The construction, body and trim materials, seat arrangement, inspection scope and documentation must also match the project specification.
This page helps EPC contractors, engineers, procurement teams and distributors review industrial ball valve types, construction options, material considerations and RFQ requirements before requesting a project quotation from Raymon Valve.Submit Your Ball Valve Datasheet
Industrial Ball Valve Types and Product Range
Industrial ball valves use a rotating ball with a through passage to provide shut-off or isolation. Their suitability depends on the required duty, pressure and temperature conditions, medium properties, seat design, operating frequency and installation requirements.
Vannes à boisseau sphérique flottantes
A floating ball is not fixed by a lower trunnion support. Under differential pressure, the ball moves toward the downstream seat to establish sealing contact. Review pressure, size, seat loading, operating torque and the specified leakage acceptance.
Review ball valve selection considerations
Vannes à boisseau sphérique montées sur tourillons
A trunnion mounted ball is mechanically supported, typically by upper and lower support arrangements. Seat loading and operating torque depend on the specific design, pressure conditions, size and seat configuration. Review the actual product datasheet rather than assuming that all trunnion designs have the same pressure or torque characteristics.
Vannes à boisseau sphérique à entrée par le dessus
Top entry construction provides access to internal components through the upper body section. Buyers should review maintenance access, body construction, pressure boundary design, installation clearance and the manufacturer’s documented maintenance procedure.
Fully Welded Ball Valves
Fully welded body designs use welded body construction. Review the approved welding procedure, weld inspection scope, heat treatment requirements where applicable, pressure testing and pipeline installation requirements.
Vannes à boisseau sphérique à siège souple
Soft seated designs use non-metallic seat materials. PTFE, reinforced PTFE and PEEK are possible material categories, but selection depends on the exact grade, temperature, pressure, medium composition, friction and leakage requirements.
Vannes à boisseau sphérique à siège métallique
Metal seated designs may be considered where temperature, abrasion, erosion or wear conditions require a different sealing arrangement. Verify surface treatment, contact geometry, operating torque and the specified leakage acceptance criteria.
Ball Valve Construction: Floating vs. Trunnion Mounted
The support arrangement affects how pressure loads are transferred through the ball and seats. The correct construction cannot be selected from nominal size alone. Differential pressure, seat design, operating torque, service conditions and maintenance requirements must be reviewed.

| Evaluation Item | Vanne à boisseau sphérique flottant | Vanne à boisseau sphérique montée sur tourillons |
|---|---|---|
| Support de bille | Ball is supported through the seat arrangement. | Ball is mechanically supported by trunnions. |
| Pressure load path | Differential pressure can move the ball toward the downstream seat. | Support arrangement transfers ball loads through the trunnion structure. |
| Seat loading | Depends on differential pressure and seat design. | Depends on seat mechanism, pressure and design configuration. |
| Couple de manœuvre | Must be evaluated using actual pressure and seat friction data. | Must be evaluated using actual torque data and operating conditions. |
| Selection priority | Size, pressure, seat loading and service conditions. | Size, pressure, support design and seat arrangement. |
Limite de sélection : Neither construction is universally superior. Confirm the actual design, pressure-temperature rating, operating torque and leakage criteria using the manufacturer’s product-specific documentation.
Full Bore vs. Reduced Bore
Full bore and reduced bore describe the internal flow passage, not the nominal pipeline size alone. A full bore design may be required where pipeline pigging or a specified passage diameter is important. A reduced bore design may be acceptable where the project permits a smaller passage. Confirm the minimum internal diameter, pressure drop, velocity and pipeline cleaning requirements.
Two-Piece and Three-Piece Body Construction
Body construction affects assembly, maintenance access, pressure containment and installation. Compare the body joint arrangement, bolting, gasket design, disassembly procedure and applicable design requirements. Do not assume that a removable body joint is suitable for every pressure or service condition.
Ball Valve Selection: Required Engineering Inputs
A reliable selection starts with complete service data. A valve size, pressure class or product name by itself is insufficient to establish the final valve configuration.
| Selection Input | Éléments à confirmer | Importance |
|---|---|---|
| Fonction de la vanne | Isolation, on-off duty or another specified function | Defines the required operating and shut-off duty. |
| Fluide | Composition, phase, concentration and solids | Affects corrosion, erosion and material compatibility. |
| Pression | Normal, maximum operating and design pressure | Determines pressure boundary and operating review inputs. |
| Température | Minimum, normal and maximum design temperature | Affects material strength, seat performance and pressure rating. |
| Classe de pression | Applicable class or PN and material group | Must be checked against the relevant pressure-temperature rating. |
| Construction | Floating, trunnion or other specified design | Determines support, seat and maintenance arrangement. |
| Alésage | Full bore or reduced bore; required passage diameter | Affects pipeline passage and flow restriction. |
| Raccordement d'extrémité | Flanged, butt weld, socket weld or threaded | Must match piping dimensions and connection standard. |
| Exigence d'étanchéité | Specified acceptance criteria and test basis | Determines seat and test requirements. |
| Actionnement | Manual, gearbox or actuator | Requires operating torque and control input review. |
Pressure Class Is Not a Fixed Pressure Value
Class 150, Class 300, Class 600 and other pressure classes must not be treated as direct substitutes for a single pressure value. The applicable pressure-temperature rating depends on the governing standard, material group, design and temperature.
Normal operating pressure is not a substitute for design pressure. Buyers should also consider pressure transients, differential pressure, minimum design temperature and the specified design code. The final allowable rating must be confirmed from the applicable standard and the exact valve design.
End Connection Review
Common connection options include flanged, butt-weld, socket-weld and threaded ends. The RFQ should identify the governing connection standard, nominal size, facing, pressure class, dimensional requirements and piping interface. For flange-related selection, refer to the guide de sélection vanne à boisseau sphérique à brides.
Ball Valve Body, Ball, Stem and Seat Materials
Material selection must consider the actual process environment rather than a generic material ranking. Medium composition, concentration, temperature, pressure, chloride content, H₂S, pH, solids and cleaning chemicals may affect different valve components in different ways.
Body Material Review
| Material Category | Review Factors | Evidence to Request |
|---|---|---|
| Acier au carbone | Corrosion allowance, fluid chemistry, temperature and strength requirements. | Specified grade, material certificate and applicable design basis. |
| Acier inoxydable | Chlorides, concentration, temperature and pitting or crevice corrosion risk. | Exact grade, product form and material test documentation. |
| Acier inoxydable Duplex | Chloride exposure, phase balance, fabrication and heat treatment controls. | Grade specification, manufacturing records and required inspection. |
| Special Alloys | Specific corrosion mechanisms, temperature and mechanical requirements. | Exact alloy designation and service-specific compatibility review. |
Ball, Stem, Seat and Gasket Review
Body material suitability does not establish suitability of the ball, stem, seat, packing, gasket or bolting. These components have different mechanical, chemical and sealing duties.
| Composant | Engineering Review | Potential Risk |
|---|---|---|
| Vanne à boisseau sphérique | Corrosion, surface finish, hardness and wear. | Surface damage, corrosion or galling. |
| Tige | Strength, torque transfer, corrosion and retention design. | Deformation, seizure or stem-related leakage. |
| Siège | Temperature, chemical compatibility, friction and leakage criteria. | Swelling, creep, wear or loss of sealing performance. |
| Garniture | Stem sealing, temperature, medium and emissions requirements. | External leakage or excessive friction. |
| Joint | Fluid compatibility, temperature, pressure and joint design. | Joint leakage or chemical degradation. |
| Boulonnerie | Strength, corrosion, temperature and specified material grade. | Loss of joint integrity or material mismatch. |
Sélection du matériau du siège
| Seat Category | Review Focus | Limitations to Confirm |
|---|---|---|
| PTFE | Chemical compatibility, temperature and friction. | Temperature limits, creep and deformation. |
| Reinforced PTFE | Mechanical properties and wear characteristics. | Exact formulation and service compatibility. |
| PEEK | Mechanical loading, temperature and chemical exposure. | Grade-specific compatibility and design limitations. |
| Siège métallique | Contact geometry, surface treatment, wear and leakage criteria. | Design-specific sealing performance and torque. |
Material approval boundary: A material name alone cannot establish suitability. Confirm exact grade, product form, heat treatment where applicable, process chemistry, temperature, pressure and project acceptance criteria. Sour service, hydrogen service and cryogenic duties may require additional qualification and review.
Industrial Ball Valve Applications and Service Conditions
The same ball valve configuration should not automatically be applied across different process services. Selection should begin with system duty, failure consequences, operating conditions and required inspection evidence.
Pétrole et gaz
Review pipeline or process duty, pressure class, material specification, seat arrangement, fire-safe requirements, fugitive-emission requirements and applicable product standard.
Petrochemical and Chemical
Confirm medium composition, concentration, temperature, corrosion mechanism, seat and gasket compatibility, cleaning chemicals and operating frequency.
Production d'énergie
Review isolation duty, pressure-temperature conditions, thermal cycling, material requirements and the applicable piping and equipment specifications.
Water and Wastewater
Consider water chemistry, suspended solids, corrosion, operating pressure, installation environment and maintenance access.
Mining and Heavy Industry
Assess abrasive solids, erosion, seat wear, ball surface condition, flushing requirements and maintenance intervals.
LNG and Cryogenic Systems
Confirm minimum design temperature, material toughness, seat performance, stem extension, thermal contraction and specified low-temperature qualification.
Ball Valve Standards and Pressure Testing Requirements
Standards should be selected according to the valve type, end connection, service, design basis and purchase specification. A design standard, product standard and pressure test standard have different purposes. They should not be treated as interchangeable.
| Standard | General Relevance | What Buyers Must Confirm |
|---|---|---|
| API 6D | Pipeline and piping valves within its defined scope. | Product scope, edition, design requirements and project specification. |
| API 608 | Metal ball valves with specified end connections and application scope. | Valve type, size, end connection, class and edition. |
| ASME B16.34 | Pressure-temperature ratings, materials, dimensions, testing and marking for covered valves. | Material group, temperature, construction and applicable edition. |
| API 598 | Inspection and testing requirements for valves within its scope. | Applicable product standard and specified acceptance criteria. |
| ISO 5208 | Pressure testing of metallic valves. | Test type, product standard requirements and acceptance basis. |
API 6D and API 608 do not have identical product scopes. ASME B16.34 addresses pressure-temperature ratings and other design-related requirements for covered valves, while API 598 and ISO 5208 address inspection or pressure testing within their respective scopes.
For standard-related background, consult the official organizations:
- Annonce officielle de la spécification API 6D
- API standards and edition updates
- ASME B16.34 official standard page
Always verify the current edition, amendments, product applicability and contractual requirements before purchase. A standard reference does not establish that every product offered by a supplier is certified or compliant.
Manufacturing, Inspection and Quality Documentation
When evaluating ball valve manufacturers, buyers should request evidence that corresponds to the quoted valve model and purchase specification. A general statement about quality control does not replace traceable material, inspection and test records.
Traçabilité des Matériaux
- Specified material grade and product form.
- Material Test Certificate (MTC) and applicable heat number.
- Traceability between material records and supplied components.
- PMI requirements where specified by the project.
- Heat treatment records where required by the material specification.
An MTC documents material information for the certified product or heat within its scope. It does not, by itself, prove that the physical component has not been mixed up during manufacturing. PMI can support material verification, but it does not replace the complete MTC, heat treatment records or traceability system.
Inspection and Testing Matrix
| Inspection or Test | Primary Purpose | Evidence to Review |
|---|---|---|
| Visual Inspection | Identify visible defects and workmanship issues. | Inspection records and acceptance criteria. |
| Inspection dimensionnelle | Verify specified dimensions and interfaces. | Dimensional report and approved drawing revision. |
| PMI | Verify alloy identification within the method’s capability. | PMI report and component identification. |
| NDT | Examine specified material or weld areas using selected methods. | Procedure, examination report and acceptance criteria. |
| Shell Test | Verify pressure boundary integrity under specified test conditions. | Test procedure, pressure, duration and result. |
| Seat / Closure Test | Verify closure tightness under defined test conditions. | Test medium, direction, duration and leakage acceptance. |
| Functional Test | Check operation and specified functional requirements. | Test record and approved functional criteria. |
| Inspection par tierce partie | Witness or review agreed inspection stages. | Approved ITP and inspection release records. |
Testing boundary: A shell test primarily evaluates the pressure boundary under specified test conditions. A seat test evaluates closure tightness under its defined conditions. Neither test proves the absence of every internal material, manufacturing or operational defect. RT, UT, MT and PT also have different detection capabilities and cannot be treated as interchangeable.
Inspection and Test Plan Review
Before purchase order approval, define inspection stages, witness points, hold points, procedures, acceptance criteria, document submission requirements and release conditions. The required scope should be agreed between the purchaser, manufacturer and any appointed inspection body.
See the ressource de test de pression des vannes for related testing considerations.
Common Ball Valve Failure Modes and Verification
A useful supplier review connects potential failure mechanisms to inspection evidence and corrective direction. The following table provides a preliminary review framework, not a substitute for project-specific failure analysis.
| Symptom or Failure | Possible Cause | Evidence to Check | Corrective Direction |
|---|---|---|---|
| Seat Leakage | Seat damage, contamination, wear or unsuitable material. | Test results, seat condition and process history. | Review seat design, medium cleanliness and specified leakage criteria. |
| External Leakage | Packing, gasket or joint damage. | Leak location, packing arrangement and assembly records. | Review the affected sealing interface and approved maintenance procedure. |
| High Operating Torque | Friction, pressure loading, deposits or incorrect assembly. | Torque data, differential pressure and internal condition. | Reassess seat friction, service conditions and actuator sizing inputs. |
| Ball Surface Damage | Abrasion, corrosion, erosion or unsuitable surface treatment. | Surface condition, medium solids and inspection records. | Review material, coating and service compatibility. |
| Stem Leakage | Packing deterioration, damage or installation issue. | Packing specification, stem surface and leakage records. | Review packing selection and approved maintenance procedure. |
| Body Leakage | Pressure boundary, joint or manufacturing defect. | Leak location, shell test record and inspection documentation. | Remove from service where required and escalate for engineering review. |
| Difficult Operation | Mechanical interference, deposits or unsuitable actuation. | Functional test, torque data and actuator specification. | Verify valve condition and actuator sizing against actual requirements. |
For an installed valve showing leakage, abnormal torque or body damage, follow the site’s isolation, lockout/tagout, depressurization and work-permit procedures before inspection. Do not attempt disassembly on a pressurized or unverified system.
How to Evaluate Ball Valve Manufacturers and Suppliers
A supplier comparison should establish whether each quotation meets the same technical basis. Product range, manufacturing claims and price alone are not enough to establish technical equivalence. Procurement teams should review the actual evidence and documented scope behind each offer.

|---|---|---|
| Product Design | Does the offered construction match the datasheet? | Product datasheet and approved drawing. |
| Traçabilité des Matériaux | Can specified material grades be traced? | MTC, heat number and traceability records. |
| Fabrication | Are relevant manufacturing and process controls documented? | Applicable procedures and inspection records. |
| Assemblage | Are assembly and functional requirements defined? | Assembly and functional test records. |
| Tests | Does the test scope match the purchase specification? | Approved test procedure and test reports. |
| NDT / PMI | Are examination methods and coverage specified? | Procedures, reports and acceptance criteria. |
| Documentation | Is the final document package clearly defined? | Document index and submission schedule. |
