One of the valve standard ASME B16.34 is seen as the benchmark of valve design. It includes content ratings for dimensions and other materials. It requires the specification that is based on the wall thickness in different areas of the valve bodies.

The testing of valve wall thickness depend on the following testing’s:

1.   Inner diameter

The inner diameter of the end of any steel valve is selected according with the inner diameter. The minimum diameter should be 90% of the basic inner diameter of the valve body. When checking the diameter the valve of diameter of the socket and thread is relevant and its counterbore is not taken as considerations.

2.   Valve neck

Measured thickness from the outside of the valve body that is along the direction of the valve neck. It helps in maintaining the thickness whereas inner diameter is the minimum recorded inner thickness. The required minimum thickness is recorded from the inner surface of the valve and it also comes in contact with liquid.

Valve wall thickness test and inspections

To test the valve the first thing is establishing the testing procedure that is combined with the acceptance criteria and other standards that the valve exceeds or meets. All the valves want to get inspected to make sure there is no error and leakage. Industrial valve manufacturers have to take quality assurance and inspection seriously.
