Valve end connection
Valves are manufactured and made with many end connection types that include socket welded, screw end, flanged and butt welds. Special connection can be done and it can be specified such as grooved, union, and with other connectors.
Factors for selecting valve end connections
1. Pressure rating and system pressure
2. Leakage prevention
3. Ease of installation
4. Ease of replacement and removal for repair
5. Inventory simplification
6. Weight and size
7. Cost
8. Adherence to plant standards and industry.
Selecting valve end connection
The selection of proper valve end connections is driven by the piping specifications of the project. The project specifications are dedicated to the engineering standards of many recognized technical societies.
These technical societies includes:
1. ANSI – American national standards institute
2. API – American petroleum institute
3. IEC – international electro technical commission
4. ASME – American society of mechanical engineers
5. AWWA – American water works association
6. BSI – British standard institute
7. MSS – manufacturers standardization society of fitting and valve industry
Types of valve end connection
There are 6 types of valve end connection and they are as follows:
1. Fileté
Threaded valve end connections are very common in low pressure and in piping systems. These are easy and quick to assemble. They form very tight and good connections between valves and pipes.
2. Soudé
This type of valve simply has the socket with its inner diameter. It is slightly larger than the pipe’s outer diameter.
3. À brides
La plupart des raccords d'extrémité à brides sont très utiles pour les normes industrielles. Ces types de normes définissent les critères spécifiques à respecter afin de faciliter l'utilisation du produit.
4. Compression
This type of connection is found mainly on water lines in plumbing. They don’t need heat like other valve end connection needs.
5. Union
Union connections have the threaded nut that is needed for a male valve end connection. Mostly union connections need another type like glue, welded, threaded onto the valves.
6. Montage sur collecteur
Manifold mount valve end connections incorporate the flat face with o rings around the ports. The ports on the valve are aligned with the ports on the components.
Pros of valve end connection
1. Very low cost
2. Streamline and compact installation
3. Eliminates the leakage risk
Cons of valve end connection
1. Requires a skilled installation welder
2. Valves without heat need to be disassembled during installation. It helps in avoiding damages to seals and seats
3. It makes permanent installation and makes replacement more difficult.
Conclusion
There are many different types of connection that are used to install valves. It also requires other processing components in the piping process system. They all perform the same functions that help in the piping system. It also allows it to perform its function and has all types of pros and cons.
