Understanding Industrial Valves
Industrial valves are critical components within fluid control systems, engineered to regulate, isolate, and direct the flow of various media—including water, oil, gas, and highly corrosive fluids. From simple shut-off mechanisms to sophisticated components for complex automated systems, modern industrial valves are designed for precise control, backflow prevention, and pressure relief. At Raymon, we provide comprehensive valve solutions tailored to the rigorous demands of global infrastructure and industrial processing.

Gate Valve
Gate Valves are the industry standard for isolation tasks. Designed to open by lifting a gate out of the fluid path, they offer minimal flow resistance, making them ideal for applications where linear flow is required. They can be operated via handwheels, pneumatic diaphragms, electric motors, or piston actuators.
Globe Valve
Unlike the “all-or-nothing” operation of a gate valve,Globe valves are engineered for precise flow regulation. Flow is adjusted by the position of a movable disc (or plug) relative to a fixed ring seat. Their unique internal design makes them well-suited for handling corrosive or viscous fluids that might otherwise solidify, as they effectively manage flow direction and prevent clogging.
Needle Valve
Needle Valves are specialized variations of globe valves designed for fine flow control. They feature an elongated, tapered plug instead of a standard disc, allowing for highly accurate, incremental adjustments in sensitive applications.
Butterfly Valve
Butterfly valves are compact, quarter-turn valves designed for flow regulation and isolation. By rotating the handle 90 degrees, operators can quickly control the flow. While historically noted for limited positive shutoff capabilities, modern precision engineering now ensures high-performance, airtight sealing for demanding industrial environments.
Check Valve
Also known as Non-Return Valves (NRV), Check Valve are automatic components designed to prevent backflow in a system. They operate based on internal pressure: flow in the desired direction pushes the internal mechanism (such as a ball, piston, or hinged flap) open, while any reverse flow force causes it to close immediately, ensuring one-way integrity.
Safety Valve
Safety Valve, (or Pressure Relief Valves) are critical for system protection. They are designed to automatically open when system pressure exceeds a set limit, releasing excess media to prevent equipment damage or hazardous failure.

Understanding Industrial Valve Materials
Industrial valves are engineered from a variety of high-performance materials, including grey cast iron, malleable cast iron, ductile iron, carbon steel, and stainless steel, each selected to meet specific pressure, temperature, and corrosion requirements.
Gray Cast Iron
Characterized by its flake graphite structure, Gray Cast Iron is the most widely used material in the industry. It offers excellent castability, machinability, and wear resistance. While it serves as a cost-effective solution for general-purpose applications, its mechanical strength and ductility are lower compared to modern cast iron alloys, making it ideal for non-critical pressure systems.
Malleable Cast Iron
Produced through the graphitization and annealing of white cast iron, this material offers superior strength, plasticity, and impact toughness. Malleable cast iron is often selected as a high-performance alternative to carbon steel in specific applications. It provides excellent low-temperature impact resistance and superior vibration damping, making it a reliable choice for versatile industrial conditions.
Ductile Iron
Ductile iron is a high-strength material known for its exceptional toughness and wear resistance, with performance properties closely rivaling those of steel. It is currently the industry-standard material for high-performance butterfly valves. Offering far superior durability and corrosion resistance compared to gray cast iron, ductile iron is the preferred choice for demanding media, including steam, oil, and general gas distribution systems.
Carbon Steel
Carbon steel (specifically grades like WCB, WCC) is the industry standard for high-pressure and high-temperature applications where cast iron or bronze are insufficient. Its superior ability to withstand mechanical stresses—such as thermal expansion, shock loads, and pipe deformation—makes it a highly versatile material for the most demanding oil, gas, and power infrastructure projects.
Cast Steel
Cast steel is an iron-based alloy created to provide exceptional mechanical properties through controlled solidification. Unlike cast iron, it offers greater design flexibility and structural homogeneity. Its primary advantages include high tensile strength, excellent weldability, and the ability to be cast into complex geometries, making it a critical choice for heavy-duty industrial valves that require high reliability.
Stainless Steel
Stainless steel is engineered for superior resistance to corrosive environments, including exposure to steam, water, acids, alkalis, and salts. It is the premier material for critical applications requiring long-term durability and hygiene. Butterfly valves fabricated from stainless steel are the preferred solution for extreme working conditions, offering unmatched wear resistance and the longest operational service life in highly aggressive media.

What is industrial valve automation ?
Valve automation refers to the use of electric, pneumatic, hydraulic or electromagnetic drive to control the valve by means other than human power. Its characteristics are: easy to use and safe; it can be controlled on site or remotely; it can control a single valve or centrally control multiple valves; it can perform simple on-off control or adjustment control; Electronic computer, which can realize programmed control. Due to the need for long-distance control, there will generally be valve signal feedback—light signal or 4~20mA signal feedback for valve control.
