GB and GB/T Valve Standards: Status, Scope and Project Mapping
China's national standards include mandatory GB documents and recommended GB/T documents, but the prefix alone does not establish the technical scope, current status or contract applicability of a valve requirement. A project may combine national standards with industry standards, international documents and owner specifications. Buyers therefore need to verify the exact Chinese title, number, year, status and scope on the official National Public Service Platform for Standards Information, then map each requirement to design, dimensions, materials, inspection, testing or marking.
Verify a Chinese valve standard before placing it on the datasheet
GB and GB/T are not interchangeable labels. Record the exact designation, including the year when required by the contract.
Search the official national standards platform for current, replaced or withdrawn status and review the implementation information.
Translations vary. Preserve the official Chinese designation alongside an agreed English description to prevent identity errors.
Confirm covered product, size, pressure, temperature, material and service boundaries rather than relying on the title alone.
A valve document may rely on separate standards for flanges, face-to-face dimensions, materials, pressure tests and markings.
Similar API, ASME, ISO, EN and GB-family documents are not automatically identical. Compare requirement by requirement before approving substitution.

Is there always an exact API or ASME equivalent to a GB standard?

Which language controls a GB standard requirement?
The official Chinese document is authoritative unless the contract establishes a specific controlled translation or precedence rule. Use bilingual descriptions to aid coordination, but preserve the official designation.
