Six questions before comparing offers

A defensible comparison uses the same requirement baseline for every supplier. These questions expose missing inputs and prevent price comparisons between materially different scopes.

1. What must the valve do?

Define isolation, throttling, non-return, diversion or protective duty; normal position, shutoff expectation and operating frequency.

2. What are the real process cases?

Separate normal, minimum, maximum, startup, shutdown, upset and cleaning conditions. Do not combine unrelated maxima into one artificial case.

3. Which interfaces are fixed?

Identify size, class, ends, face-to-face, bore, pipe schedule, installation orientation, available envelope and operator connection.

4. Which degradation mechanisms matter?

State corrosion, erosion, cavitation, flashing, solids, crystallization, emissions, thermal cycling and external environment where relevant.

5. What evidence is required?
