Classification of main valves and advice for their purchase in thermoelectric power plants

Main valve for thermal energy production closed
The main valves for closed thermal power generation include:
  • Globe valve / electric globe valve: is installed on the water and steam piping as an opening and closing device.
  • Electric gate / gate: is installed on the water and steam pipes as an opening and closing device.
  • The three-way valve is installed between the pressure gauge and the pressure gauge elbow for the pressure gauge.
  • Purge valve / electric purge valve: is installed in the lower header of the water-cooled boiler wall of the power plant and in the centralized downcomer as a boiler purge device.
  • Check valve: is installed on the steam and water piping as an installation device to automatically prevent backflow of fluid. Part of the function of a check valve can be classified as safety protection.
  • Steam trap: is installed in the drain piping and its function is to drain the condensate water, prevent or reduce the purge and rapid cooling of the equipment by the two-phase vapor-liquid flow and cause damage and vibration.
  • Water pressure test block valve: is installed on the steam pipes at the outlet of the boiler superheater and at the inlet and outlet of the heater as an isolation device when the system is subjected to a pressure test of the boiler water. The locking plate can be reinstalled for repeated use during the next water pressure.

In the domestic electricity industry, it is customary to refer to the device that regulates the water flow rate and pressure as a “regulating valve” called “relief valve” or “control valve”, which is divided into relief valve pressure valve and pneumatic pressure relief valve which are installed in the system of:
  • Reduction of boiler temperature and pressure
  • Soot blowing

Main valves for the production of thermal energy for safety protection
The safety valve is the most common protection valve. Its function is to automatically discharge steam when the pressure exceeds the specified value to prevent the pressure from continuing to rise, in order to ensure the safety of the boiler and the steam turbine.
It is mainly installed in:
  • boiler drum
  • super-heater output
  • heater outlet
  • deaerator
  • top and bottom steam water side of the power plant boiler
  • industrial steam extraction pipeline
  • steam turbine heating pipeline
The electromagnetic vent valve is a protection device that prevents the steam pressure in the boiler from exceeding the specified value. It’s opened before the safety valve is activated to discharge excess steam to protect the normal operation of the boiler at the specified pressure. At the same time, the number of actions of the safety valve is reduced and the life of the safety valve is extended.
The inlet valve, (such as high addition valve, high addition valve or high addition three way valve), and the high pressure heater check valve are installed at the inlet and outlet of the high pressure heater respectively. These two valves are used together when the high pressure heater crashes, the inlet valve closes the high pressure heater inlet and the check valve closes the high pressure heater outlet. The feed water enters the boiler through the bypass, and the high-pressure heater stops working at this time. , so as to decompose the high pressure heater to ensure the normal water supply of the boiler. The pneumatic quick start valve is used in the oil, water and steam boiler system as a device for automatic and rapid fluid cutting.
The circulator outlet valve is installed at the boiler circulator outlet. The shut-off valve is installed on the superheater and post-heater water spray pipes and is used as a quick opening and closing device. These types of valves can be classified as safety protection or closure. Among them, pneumatic quick opening valves and locking valves have quick closing or opening characteristics.
The pressure relief valve is a device that prevents the fluid pressure in the equipment from rising beyond the permissible value and ensures the safe operation of the equipment.
The steam extraction check valve is used in steam extraction and heating systems of steam turbines to prevent the pressure in the steam turbine from being suddenly reduced when the steam turbine unit is suddenly losing load and steam in the steam extraction tube and each heater flows back into the steam turbine, causing the steam turbine blades to break.
